- Serum Testosterone
Although testosterone is most commonly known for being ‘the male hormone’, both men and women produce the hormone and could be impacted by irregular Testosterone levels.
For men Testosterone plays a role in sex drive, sperm production, fat distribution, red cell production, and maintenance of muscle strength and mass. There is evidence that men who are overweight and obese have lower testosterone levels than those of normal weight.
For women Testosterone has many functions. It is important for bone strength and development of lean muscle mass and strength. Testosterone also contributes to overall sense of well-being and energy levels. Women’s testosterones levels are commonly known to fluctuate due to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), menopause or a variety of other reasons.
